Monday 5 December:

 After breakfast we are picked up by two students of school number 47.
At 10.00 all students of the 7 participating schools gave a presentation about their country and their school.
The participating countries are: Greece, Spain, Turkey, Netherlands, France, Romania, Tithuania, and Latvia.
After the presentations we had lunch and a tour of the school. (elementary, secondary and highschool in one building.)
In the evening we watched an icehockey match Dynamo Riga vs. UFAS Russia. The result was 2 – 4 in a 10,000 people packed stadium, a great experience.
Then a walk through Riga, looking for the bus and back to the hotel and bed.

Tuesday 6 December:

Breakfast at 8.00 and at 9 o’clock we walked to the school. By bus we went on an excursion to bio gas installation on the refuse dump of Riga (eko getlini).
Afterwards we had lunch and went to the bobsled track and then we visited the area of Sigulda, the castle Turaida and the famous cave.
Then we returned to Riga and had lunch in the Lido restaurant.
Then we went back to the hotel by excursion bus.
The evening was spent by cardgames and trying to find internet in order to send information to school.

Wednesday 7 December:

A free morning to go shopping. Meet at 11.30 in front of Black Head House at the market in Riga. This house has been rebuilt in the nineties. It is an old Hanze business house. It is the symbol of the new Latvia and its own identity. (Since 1990 Latvia is not in the USSR anymore.)
Then a tour through the old city with students of school Number 47 as our guides.
Students speak English very well and they have had English since the age of 7.
We finish with a late lunch at about 16.00 in a buffet restaurant  of the Lido chain
Afterwards all students can see Riga again.

Thursday 8 December:

At 10.00 all students made Christmas cards which they offer all countries at the final meeting on Friday afternoon.
The teachers can follow three lessons in the school. We visited needlework, p.e., English.
At 13.00 lunch is in the schoolcafetaria. Then a nice sport and game afternoon in the large gymnasium. The school also has a highschool with a very good girls and boys basketball team. There is a national competition.
In the evening dinner for the teachers. Our students go into Riga on their own. The students of the other schools stay with families. At 23.00 everybody is back in the hotel.

Friday 9 December:

At 10.00 we left for an excursion to Laci – bakery. They make Latvian Eco Bread, without preservatives. Then to the Baltic Sea, to find ourselves in a snow storm on the beach.
The seaside place is called Jurmala and still has many old wooden beach/holiday houses.
They all look somewhat decayed, because these houses are National Inheritance and can’t be demolished.
The people don’t have enough money to buy and restore these houses.
At 14.00 back to school for lunch.
At 15.00 a final ceremony with Latvian danc by group of 5 students in costume.
The Christmas cards are exchanged and each country shows a national dance. 
So there was Sirtaki, Flamengo, etc. We finished as Holland with disco and jump-style on stage by Mart-Jan and Vince. An overwhelming success for all countries. fter an emotional good-bye we went back to the hotel. At 20.00 we had a pizza in the hotel.
The students were invited for an after-party at a student’s place.

Saturday 10 December:

At 9.00 breakfast and departure for airport.
At 11.30 Latvian time return flight to Brussels, where we were picked up by Mart-Jan’s father.
At 15.00 back at school.
It was a very nice week, quite studious with great international contacts.
